February Foodie Penpals Reveal Day

It's that time of the month again, it's reveal day :)
This month I sent my package to Abbey in Ohio, sadly she doesn't have a blog for me to link too :( She has a walnut allergy, so I had to check labels extra carefully this month before I sent anything to her.

The person who sent me my wonderful box this month was Ashley, and she sent it me all the way from Bloomington, Indiana.

She wrote me a beautiful note on a gorgeous card, the card was designed by an artist from the UK, and it turns out the artist lives in the same place my mum grew up - Falmouth, Cornwall, which is one of my favorite places to visit in the UK.

I know you all want to see what I got in my box - so here goes.....

I loved the heart paper she wrapped everything in - especially as it is February and the month of love. The card had a Coco Chanel quote on the front 'A girl should be two things Classy and Fabulous'.
Ashely loves buying local foods, so her box focused on this. The mustard I have yet to try, but it looks good. The bread was actually baked on the street Ashely lives on - and it was amazing, it didn't last long at all!! The spaghettini isn't something I have seen before, Ashley said she loves to find new ways to introduce more vegetables into her diet, this is such a cool idea - spaghettini made with carrots, green beans and spinach. I haven't got round to trying it yet, I must plan to use it soon. I love all of those vegetables so imagine it will taste great. Apparently Ashley's friends are always saying how much she loves salsa and chips - who doesn't?! The day after the box arrived I went out and bought some chips, and they probably lasted two days - the salsa was so good, it tasted so fresh. The pasta sauce was also amazing, I had it with some regular pasta and also as a sauce on some homemade pizza, the tomatoes had such a great taste.

Thanks again Ashley for such an awesome box, I hope you loved the box you received as much as I loved mine. I have signed up for March, and am super excited to see who my next match is. How many of you are also signed up? What do you enjoy the most - shopping for your match or receiving your box? I love the challenge of shopping for someone else, but also love the element of surprise when I receive a box too.

And now it's time for some details about Foodie Penpals.  In case you’re a new reader, here’s a reminder of what the program is all about:
-On the 5th of every month, you will receive your penpal pairing via email. It will be your responsibility to contact your penpal and get their mailing address and any other information you might need like allergies or dietary restrictions.
-You will have until the 15th of the month to put your box of
goodies in the mail. On the last day of the month, you will post about
the goodies you received from your penpal!
-The boxes are to be filled with fun foodie things, local food items
or even homemade treats! The spending limit is $15. The box must also
include something written. This can be anything from a note explaining
what’s in the box, to a fun recipe…use your imagination!
-You are responsible for figuring out the best way to ship your

about flat rate boxes!)
-Foodie Penpals is

You must submit your information by March 4th as pairings will be emailed on March 5th!

Weekly Weigh In

So last week I was expecting a bigger loss on the scale, I ate nearly all my weekly points, but also earned 40 activity points - so maybe I didn't eat enough.

This week I tried something different, I went back to clean eating wherever possible - probably about 75% of the week, I didn't track points I just tried to stick to three meals a day and no snacks. I wore my active link, but I never did any exercise other than my usual walking and walking of the dogs.

Still managed to earn 12 AP's - as you can see yesterday I spent most of the day on the sofa - Daytona 500 in the morning and Oscars in the evening!!

I wasn't really sure what to expect when I stood on the scales this morning, so was pleasantly surprised with the numbers

Numbers time:
Previous Weight: 276.6
Today's weigh in: 272.4
 +/- :  -4.2lbs
Total loss 32.6lbs

What's that all about? Maybe I ate a lot less than normal, I'm not really sure. Just hope that it doesn't go the other way next week. I am going to adopt the same strategy this week, I will eat clean as much as possible, cut out snacks and try and increase my exercise.

I signed up for another dietbet, after today's weigh in I am half way to goal, but I am going to Vegas in two weeks, so not sure how that will play out with my plans, part of me wants to try super hard, and part of me wants to say 'f**k it I'm in Vegas lets party!'  I always do lots of walking when I'm in Vegas so that should help, depends if we hit the buffet or not, do have one meal planned, we have reservations at Gordon Ramsay's Steak on the Friday night.

Have a great week everyone

Weekly Weigh In

Last week was an awesome week, I tracked 100% - used 35 of my weekly points and earned 40 AP's which is the most I have ever earned in one week. I hit my Active Link goal 120%.

Saturday I ran the Bay Breeze 5k and I got a new 5k PR - which made the run extra special. I am getting close to the 50 minute mark, so hopefully can break that in the next few months. I was toying with the idea of taking part in the Diablo Trails Challenge 5k but the thought of an elevation of 558' put me off - I thought about it for 24 hours, then decided to take the plunge and I have signed up for it :) I am not a big fan of hills (who is?!) but am looking forward to the challenge, even though I won't be creating any new PR's that race.

Numbers time:
Previous Weight: 278.6
Today's weigh in: 276.6
 +/- :  -2lbs
Total loss 28.4lbs

I will admit I am a little disappointed with this number as I was expecting it to be a lot higher after all the exercise I have done and being on track, but as they say slow and steady wins the race, if I was to lose 2lb every week I would lose 100lbs in a year.

Have a great week everyone and if you haven't entered my giveaway - you have 4 hours left to do it.

Bay Breeze 5k

Took part in the Bay Breeze 5k this morning, was very pleased to see the weather was going to be nicer than my last 5k, it was actually the perfect temperature for running, warm but not too warm and no breeze.

The route was around Quarry Lakes and about 95% flat (much nicer than my last 5k!)

I probably jogged about 40% of the course and fast walked the rest, which worked out well as I finished the race in 53:35 (it was just over 5k). Was super pleased when I checked my phone as I made a new PR for my 5k - I took 2mins 45secs off my previous PR :)

One thing I did notice is that I need to work on my breathing during the times I jog, as I tend to hold my breath - don't know why! So need to try and work on a breathing strategy so I can work on jogging for longer. This time I had no aches during or after, so I think this is a great sign my body is coping well, also this week I have done lots of walking too, which I am sure has helped.

Another medal and bib for my display, my medal rack is now full so need to look at buying a new one.

I love the super cool shirts and medals from Brazen racing - definitely makes it fun to participate, and as usual there was lots of yummy snacks available after the race. My next 5k is a virtual one, its the Jelly Bean 5k, which i will be running on March 23rd, not sure which location I will choose for it yet though.
My April 5k I am still trying to decide on - I really want to do the Diablo Trails Challenge, BUT the elevation over the course is 558ft and that is putting me off - I haven't found any other races for April yet - so I think I may need to take the plunge and sign up for this one, I certainly won't be making any new PR's that race!!

Weekly Weigh In

I'm actually posting my weigh in on the day it happened for once :) Today has started well, I have tracked my breakfast, hoping the rest of the day works out and then the rest of the week. The last time I tracked was Jan 31st, so it's time to sort that out.

I am doing really well at wearing my Active Link all day, and haven't missed a day since I purchased it. My goal did increase last week as I was achieving it almost every day - this week, I only hit goal once, but to be fair I never really worked out. As a result I hit my goal 82% and only earned 10 AP's - which is a bit embarrassing really.

This week I am on a mission - yes I said it, this is the proof! I will hit my goal everyday - no excuses. Feel free to nag me during the week to check up on my progress :)

Numbers time:
Previous Weight: 279.4
Today's weigh in: 278.6
 +/- :  -0.8lbs
Total loss 26.4lbs

Yes it was a loss, but nothing to really be proud of, especially after the huge gain last week. My body is really craving proper food, so hoping that will help keep me focused, plus I have a 5k to run this Saturday which I am excited about.

Have a great week and thanks for stopping by

Chocolate coated yumminess - review and giveaway

I recently received a postcard via the Postcrossing site from someone called Janelle, she mentioned she makes chocolate covered oreos and has an etsy shop. I was excited to check this out and she gave me a special deal if I wanted to place an order.

Her etsy shop is SweetToothSweetie - be warned before you click on the link, it will make you super hungry!! It seems such a simple idea, but I imagine can be very time consuming also. When I first heard from Janelle it was a few weeks prior to the Super Bowl, so I asked her to make me some 49ers themed oreos and she did such a great job. They were packaged so beautifully - I wish I had taken a photo of the box they came in too.

The photos I took don't really do them justice. They tasted amazing, but at the same time they were so sweet, that one was enough. Each one carefully wrapped and tied with a color co-ordinated ribbon.

As you will see from Janelle's shop, she is able to do a wide variety of designs, and can custom make them to anything you want. I just noticed the mint ones today - so may have to put another order in.

She has kindly offered to give all of my blog readers 20% off their order if they use the code CHOCOHOLIC. I think these also make great gifts too, and she will include a free personalized card if you are sending them as a gift.

Now the best part - one lucky reader - sorry US residents only, will get to win one dozen oreos (including shipping) - in the design of their choice. All entries need to be via the rafflecopter app below.

Disclaimer:  The SweetToothSweetie oreos were provided to me at reduced cost and were not in  exchange for a review.  The opinions expressed are mine and I was not required to provide a positive review

Weekly Weigh In

OK, so where do I start.... This week hasn't been great, it started off great and then slowly I started to go off track, and just like a runaway train (not sure why I chose that reference!) I ended up being totally out of control and as a result haven't tracked since Friday. You would think after my big gain (numbers to follow shortly), I would have been eager to get back on track, but I am struggling to stay focused. I am a bit OCD when it comes to planning, and the last two weeks we have had a friend staying, so I haven't had a set plan for the week, and I think that has thrown me a bit. I'm not blaming that on my over eating, the eating falls entirely on me, I could have made much better choices in the restaurants and said no to appetizers and desserts, but I chose not too. I'm hoping by the end of the week I will have got my destructive behavior out of my head. I plan to sit own on Sunday and properly plan for the week ahead, you maybe asking why not do that today? - I am asking myself the same question! I do wonder why my brain works like this sometimes.

I guess it wasn't all totally bad this week, exercise wise I did great. I earned 27 AP's with my Active Link (6 more than last week) and hit my goal 112%. As a result they suggested I increase my  end goal for the 12 week challenge. So now my new goal is to earn 5 points a day, it started as a goal of 0-2 points a day. So far this week though I haven't hit goal :(

Time for the numbers:

Previous Weight: 272.2
Today's weigh in: 279.4
 +/- :  +7.2lbs
Total loss 25.6lbs

I have a 5k to run next weekend, so I need to start eating healthy again or I will be feeling totally crap during the run.

Those of you who are on facebook - feel free to check out and 'like' my facebook page

Thanks or stopping by, have a great week
